Shine With a Whiter and Brighter Smile

Over time, teeth naturally become stained and discolored. Various factors can lead to discolored teeth that do not appear as bright and white as they once did. Exposure to highly pigmented foods and beverages, age, tobacco use, and certain medications can all contribute to discoloration. Professional teeth whitening treatments are the best solution for patients hoping to achieve dramatic whitening results quickly.

Why Choose Professional Teeth Whitening Treatments?

Professional teeth whitening treatments are superior to over-the-counter options in many ways.

More Powerful Ingredients Deliver Faster Results

Since professional teeth whitening treatments are prescribed, administered, and monitored by dental professionals, they contain a more effective mix and concentration of active ingredients compared to over-the-counter options. As a result, professional whitening treatments deliver more impactful results in way less time.

Customized Treatments and Whitening Expectations

Administered by a dentist, professional whitening treatments are customized to meet each patient's unique needs while helping them achieve their desired level of whitening. Our dentists work with patients, using a tooth enamel color chart, to mark the patient's starting shade and select a targeted level of whitening. We can then recommend a customized treatment plan (length and number of whitening sessions) that will help the patient achieve their desired whitening results.

Always Safe

Professional whitening treatments are administered by a dental professional and prescribed with custom instructions tailored to each patient's needs. These treatments are always safe and will never harm your tooth enamel or oral health.

Conversely, over-the-counter treatments have not all been approved by the American Dental Association and properly tested for safety. These can sometimes contain overly abrasive ingredients that can weaken tooth enamel.

Well-Managed Sensitivity

We take special precautions to protect a patient's soft tissues during teeth whitening treatments. Some patients might experience a bit of temporary tooth sensitivity as a result of teeth whitening treatments. This is normal and will usually disappear after a few days. We can, however, provide patients with fluoride treatments to help mitigate any sensitivity that might arise.

Types of Professional Teeth Whitening

There are two different types of professional teeth whitening treatments available to patients:

In-Office Teeth Whitening

In-office teeth whitening treatments are administered in our office and monitored by a professional. These treatments use the strongest whitening agents and work quickly to lift stains and brighten the teeth. In-office whitening sessions usually take about two hours.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

We also offer professional teeth whitening kits for patients to take home. These kits include custom-designed and manufactured whitening trays for a comfortable fit. They deliver the same results as in-office treatments over more whitening sessions and can be self-administered in the comfort of your own home.

How to Maintain Your Professionally Whitened Smile

To maintain your newly whitened smile and lengthen the time between whitening sessions, we recommend:

  • Continuing to practice good oral hygiene, brushing and flossing daily and visiting the dentist every six months for a dental cleaning and checkup
  • Using over-the-counter whitening toothpaste
  • Avoiding or limiting highly pigmented foods and beverages (chocolate, berries, coffee, tea, red wine, and dark-colored sodas)
  • Refraining from tobacco use of all kinds

Is Professional Teeth Whitening the Right Option for You?

Professional teeth whitening is designed to dissolve and lift stains from natural tooth enamel.

This means that it is not effective on dental restorations that are made from porcelain, composite resin, or other restorative dental materials such as dental implants, dental crowns, dental bonding, dental bridges, dental veneers, or dentures. As a result, whitening treatments can result in an uneven appearance between the shade of a patient's dental restorations and their natural tooth enamel.

If you have dental restorations, our dentists can talk with you about options for whitening your smile and refreshing your dental work to create an evenly bright, white appearance.
